Not all of these were used in the movie, but some of them were (Viva la Pappa and one of Morandi's song but rn I am actually have a brain fart and can't remember which one).
They also featured a few of Rossini's songs from his operas, but that is a genre I am not going to touch, the only thing I could say was that if you visit Genova and go on a tour with the train Pippo, at one point you will hear Nessun Dorma playing from the speakers (and I still don't know why).
I definitely felt they left it vague - for obvious reasons - ] but certainly if Luca or Alberto were girls people would not dispute what people are seeing. Gay relationships are always seen by people in media in extremes and I think that's another thing, people projecting that reading it gay means reading it as a prelude to more adult romance when it clearly felt like a first love/childhood crush thing at this stage of their lives.
I saw people shipping them and I personally was not fully sold of them, but after doing this post and listening more carefully to the lyrics, I'm like... okay maybe they are. Because some of these songs for sure do not fit Luca and Giulia's relationship.
But Fatti Mandare Dalla Mamma is about a boy singing to his girlfriend about seeing her with another boy and being super jealous, it was impossible not thinking about Alberto.
I didn’t think the relationship itself seemed romantic, but the parents in the film made me think of the different reactions parents could have to finding out their kids are gay. (Send them away, abandonment, and then Guilia’s dad finally accepting them.) Also the end of the race scene definitely felt like they were being outed. I def think that someone involved was trying to tell an lgbtq story, but maybe not everyone was on the same page.

Mina is such a legend!!! I don't even like this song, but what she does with Brava is amazing!
My favorites are Città Vuota and Mi sei scoppiato dentro al cuore
Gianni Morandi's scende la pioggia is the italian cover of "Eleonor" by the Turtles
