I'm so glad women are starting to call out these sexists double standards and hopefully this is the start of considerable change!

As long as their uniforms don’t interfere with their ability or hinder performance, they should wear what they want. I think the German gymnastics uniforms looks great, and I’m sure they feel more confident.

But if they want to keep their stupid rules, they should hold the men to the same dress code they have for women.

FIG allows for gymnasts to wear unitards at international competitions so technically it's acceptable, but I think the issue is going to be gymnasts telling their coaches/gyms that they WANT to wear them and then having to order them. Usually team uniforms are ordered and bought in bulk (they're still sized for the gymnasts but my experience ordering uniforms was usually that there was a minimum number required to place an order ( ... )

You also have to keep in mind that girls hit puberty as young as 8 and that the average age is 10-11 so you have to imagine that it can be only 2 or so years after they start in a sport. And adult male sexualization of girls and women starts around age 10.

That reminds me. When my nephew was a toddler (he's now 6) I was browsing shorts and realized that the girl shorts were shorter. For toddlers! It wasn't miniature adult wear either. Just jersey shorts

And it made me so upset.

we socialize boys and girls SO differently from birth. this is exactly why i don't care for the 'ask girls what they're comfortable with' mentality in regards to changing uniforms as it assumes that girls haven't been told literally since infancy that their clothes should ne tighter and shorter. it's not like we grow up and suddenly misogyny and sexualization starts at some indefinable later time, it's an influence before we're even aware.

Speaking of sexualized sports, is there a reason cheer isn't an Olympic sport? I feel like it's comparable to gymnastics and the synchronized swimming..

It's becoming one! They just voted to add it, so I think it will be one at the 2024 Olympics

The IOC is not going to add any new sports at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. I know that because I had really hoped that Beachhandball would be one of them after it was an event at the Junior Olympics 2018 in Buenos Aires.

Generally I'm let people wear what they're comfortable with, with a side of if it requires tampon checks and extra pubic grooming it's probably not great

When I was in middle school, the ballet school I attended required us to wear white leotards. When I got my first period, I was like ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? I wanted to skip class for a week every month, not just because of the physical discomfort of cramps but because I was always paranoid that I was going to end up with blood stained leotards and tights.
