James Gunn is trying his best to not make his own superhero movies “boring.” The Suicide Squad director spoke to SFX Magazine about the upcoming sequel and why he tried to made it different than other superhero films

I would have preferred to be bored during Guardians Volume 2, instead of constantly rolling my eyes because it was trying SO hard to be quirky.

I was amused by the first one and completely underwhelmed by the second. And the whole hook of the movie, those damn tapes of Starlord's mom, ceased being amusing even while I was watching the first movie.

I don't watch DC movies because lol I read DC comics and I can't handle the disappointment at the movie adaptations.

But I do watch MCU stuff and like, it's fun? Some movies are better than others, but they almost always manage to at least entertain me for the 2 hours I'm watching them. (...Thor: The Dark World being a notable exception lmao)

Save yourself. I sometimes wish I never watch certain DC projects lol I'm both a Marvel and DC comics fan. I mostly stick to the animated stuff.

Superhero films are meant to be fun. Nobody's looking for a deep meaning in them.

I wish I could stop myself from watching DC lol, especially the clusterfuck that Titans somehow continues to exist. Doom Patrol was whimsical which was nice. I sort of miss campy Gotham when it didn't take itself seriously.

The “there’s too many marvel movies” complaint is silly. There have always been a ton of fun action movies. Now more of them are superhero adaptations instead of the 12th die hard rip off in a row. Marvel will keep making movies until they stop making movies that entertain people. It’s not that complicated.

It’s really wild to me that it has a decent rating on RT, it felt too much like The Dark World to me in how boring it was. I couldn’t bring myself to care what the fuck was going on with Starlord and his dad.
