No. There are truly "culturally fluid" people who have grown up in different countries, speak different languages, or go back and forth between places (army kids, people with relatives they visit frequently in other countries, etc) and flat-out lying, and she is the latter. Her own family was like wtf when she tried to lie and say they didn't know how to pronounce Baldwin.
It would be much closer to the truth if she simply said she developed a love for the country and culture while spending childhood summers there and had since learned the language, how to cook favorite meals, etc.
exactly! just say you love the culture and decided to honor that love by giving your children spanish names. you can even encourage them to be bilingual! but this is on another level of delusion.
Exactly. I have a friend who is a straight up Anglophile who LOVES England, and he and his husband have enough disposable income to indulge him and they've done wild British shit, including:
- Sailing from the U.S. to England on the Queen Mary
- Having a home share in London that they went to each year for about a month so he could watch Downton Abbey each season it premiered.
- Ordering tons of British food from overseas while in the States
Never once has he claimed he was British, just that he loves the country and culture. Hilaria is still straight up claiming she is Spanish and she's not and I don't get it, especially since she's impressive in her own right being from the Vineyard and one of Philadelphia's oldest families (I think, please correct me if wrong) who had the privilege of going to Spain every summer and who actually learned a foreign language. She needs to not.
