I'm gonna say it: all the musical roles that Meryl takes on should have been done by Christine Baranski and her playing second fiddle to Meryl who can kind of hold a tune is annoying to me.

Please exclude Into the woods from that narrative because The Witch 100% belongs to Queen Bernadette.

Julie plays campy characters.

Sharon’s “acting” is just camp.

There’s a difference.

Do we do this to male actors?

I'm not taking the bait. Meryl is fine and Hollywood's racism problem is bigger than one woman.

No. I've never seen people compare Daniel Day-Lewis and Gary Oldman in a negative light. They always sing praises of their acting an influence on others.

Obvs one of the factors there is that men get much more roles than woman so the pool of choices allows for more friendly competition for men. Whereas the pool for woman is very tiny and only so few get to shine.

DDL and Gary Oldman aren't upheld as cultural icons, especially in a way that positions other actors as being below them (as is what happens with Meryl).

Now that I think about it....who's the living male actor who can stand next to Meryl? She seems to be above the men too.

De Niro, Pacino, Nicholson....etc...etc aren't going as hard as she is.

I think it's more that she is a good actress and is properly rated while other actresses are underrated. I agree with Sharon.
