Giving to charity is nice and all, especially at this scale and to organizations that traditionally go overlooked by big donors, but she has notably not given any money to worker's rights organizations (like girl, low wages drive inequality and the source of her money is in part due to worker exploitation) and she could easily throw her weight behind reforming the tax code and public policy so people wouldn't be beholden to "kind" billionaires.

A lot of Americans have shown they do not care about themselves as working people by the choices made in voting. After over a century of proof that they will be screwed if they do not. Throwing money at workers rights groups will not change that. The same thing is happening in Britain also right now.

Who knows, I mean its A LOT more than her asshole ex-husband would ever donate lbr... she seems like she's genuinely interested in her philanthropic efforts so I can't hate. This is the 2nd time she has done this, I highly doubt it will be the last. She has the capacity to make real change, so I feel like we'll continue to see a lot more of her tbh... It says a lot about her that her next marriage was to a teacher, rather than Bezos 2.0....

*Idk, I would like to think she is a good example of giving someone the benefit of the doubt (reasonably ofc), that deserves some optimism tbh...

The thing is, always judging good actions relative to bad actions or inaction leaves us without the room to imagine better possibilities. Philanthropy is needed to alleviate human suffering but ultimately it still allows the wealthy to decide what kind of suffering is remediated when hoarding wealth is the cause of a lot of suffering in the first place.

ETA: With respect to her setting a good example, billionaires don’t need an example of how not to be evil. They need to be taxed like crazy.

If I had that kind of money I think I’d go more ground level with my charity, like, I don’t know, set up a foundation to fund poor people’s education directly, give them financial support during crisis times - illness, sudden job loss etc. Buy up buildings and create safe accommodation for homeless people, that kind of thing. I would love to be in a position to just take that worry from people. I feel like giving money to colleges and dance academies just ties it up in admin.

But whatever, it’s her money and she can do what she wants with it, and at least she does some good, unlike that super villain Bezos.

My dream is that when (if) the state or feds take 45’s stupid tower in NYC because of his many many financial crimes, it gets turned into a homeless shelter.

that's nice, a single person doesn't need that much money

people really don't understand just how much a billion is
