love that they had this premiere at the United Palace theater, actually in Washington Heights!! also that theater is STUNNING inside, maybe even prettier than the Beacon.
the piss yellow carpet and bodega background are a...choice. i seen the show, i love the show, i know the significance but it looks fucking stupid lmao
I saw an early screening of the film and I was incredibly disappointed. The movie is a poor adaptation of the show, however, I think people unfamiliar with In the Heights or musicals in general, will probably enjoy it or find it entertaining enough to sit through. Also, I don’t want to diminish the impact the representation this movie brings to the screens, there is still joy in seeing a majority Latino cast portraying characters just existing, for the better lack of a phrase (though not great on Afro-Latinos representation, there was no point to Dascha Polanco’s character) To be clear, I don’t outright hate the film, there are some changes and some numbers I liked and thought were well done but as a massive fan of the original show, I can’t help but think they edited the story so much that most of the heart of the show was left on the cutting room floor.
It took three years for Jon Chu to acknowledge the lack of South Asians in Crazy Rich Asians, I guess we’ll need to wait till 2024 for him to make a real statement
I've been saying this over and over lol. Can't wait till I have to sit there and listen to my friends gush over how amazing this movie is while I'm still seething over including Dascha but cutting out Nina's mother entirely, taking her dad's and Benny's arc in the process lol.
