I think child protection laws/enforcers are incredibly poor and this is to the detriment of child welfare.
I cant pretend to know the details of the case but the children should be offered the stand if they want to take it. Disenfranchisement of children is severe.
When I was 4 I had a custody hearing and I know I didn’t have any idea what was going on, I just told the judge during our quick meeting in his chambers whatever my mom had told me to say.
Ended up going through something kinda similar when my own kid was 9 and decided to settle in mediation because I didn’t want them to have to go through the trauma of either not being listened to by the judge or feeling like whatever the outcome of the trial would be their fault.
Anyways, this whole situation is so gross to me...I hate that Brad will get away with this unscathed and I feel so badly for the kids.
Really sucks you had to go through that. With kids that young I'd get not talking to them or not in a huge capacity, but aren't the youngest of Angies kids 12? That seems old enough to me to understand the situation and speak for themselves in a safe environment.
You’re correct, the kids are all completely of an age where they know what they want. However, I don’t think a lot of (old men) judges believe that and may not fully listen to the children or believe that the children know what’s best for themselves.
Totally agree with you, these judges definitely look down on the kids and their actual wishes and think because they are grown ups they know best and deny the kids any agency about their own life and living situation.
Yep, I wish my parent handled their divorce out of my sight and leave me out of it. Hey! You guys married without me or my input... But kept going at each other and to this day, they still hold every word I said against me one way or another.
I'm so sorry for these kids. I don't understand why these kids don't seem to have a guardian ad litem to give them a bit more of a voice without putting them on the stand.
