Fuck that hashtag. I can't believe that something like this is allowed to be used.

ok but the ADL was supporting trump when he moved the embassy where they had antisemitic preachers speak at the opening so idk how serious they are

The ADL is very conservative and not the best example for him to cite. ADL says that any criticism of Israel is antisemitism. I don't agree and think it's a damaging position.

you know, there are parts of history that are not well known - whether because it wants/forced to be forgotten, depending on where you grew up, the education you received, a variety of reasons. But the Holocaust. It very well may be the one thing that people around the globe are all aware of and something that was not that long ago. There are people still alive that lived through concentration camps. That there are people who look back on that and are like... yup. That's the plan.

I know I should stop being surprised people are so horrific and yet...

The Holocaust gets held up as the ultimate evil of man, the worst thing that's ever happened, etc. etc. because then allied troops were heroes for stopping it.

But of course the US, Canada, Australia, Russia, the UK, New Zealand, etc. were plenty anti-semitic before, during, and after WWII.

The Jews were convenient victims when it served that narrative, but plenty of people who will talk about the "horrors of the Holocaust" don't actually give a fuck about anti-semitism.

its so deeply frustrating as a Jew to see the Holocaust taught as if it was a unique evil that had never happened before as if European nationalism wasn't built on creating Jewish bogeymen to unite against for centuries

Yep. Hundreds and hundreds of years of scapegoating and demonizing but then suddenly everyone was appalled at Hitler because it served their political needs.

I'm also uncomfortable when the narrative gets turned into "this is the worst thing that has ever happened" given that it's nowhere near the first genocide or humanitarian crisis.

That's not to say I want to diminish the Holocaust, but all of the narrative around it has always felt weird. And, clearly, people don't learn the lessons.
