Yeah, you should watch the last season of the Clone Wars tv series first. A number of the characters were introduced in a multi-episode arc in Clone Wars season 7, and the Bad Batch premiere overlaps story-wise with the Clone Wars finale. There are also quite a few throwback references to the Clone Wars show in general - most people will be able to understand things just fine, but the more you know, the more enjoyable it'll be. Like an Easter egg.

Watching Rebels isn't necessary, but there is a Rebels reference that'll be really impactful if you're in the know. (If you know the basic backstories of the Rebels characters, you'll fall into the "in the know" group.)

I'm tired of them rehashing the same time period of Star Wars, which is why I like The High Republic.

Or at least the concept of it, I haven't read the books yet.

I was not that impressed with the books, but the second was better than the first I thought.

I love the prequel timeframe but what is boring is rehashing the same storylines over and over again. Order 66 microchips? Been there. Transition from Republic to Empire? Done that.

I tolerate the Empire's rise a little more in the novels. Princess of Alderaan? Amazing. Thrawn 1? Okay-ish. I want more about rebuilding after The Empire or around THR.
