Thank you to President Joe Biden for properly recognizing the #ArmenianGenocide today. This is extremely important but only a milestone towards the long road of justice ahead with Turkey. https://t.co/nlVMmRpZWg

Recognizing the Armenian genocide seems like the bare minimum, but it still feels good to see our leaders do it.

Glendale is gonna be crazy tonight.

Meanwhile he can't even acknowledge the genocide of Black and Brown people in his own damn county. Man, fuck off.

hm. maybe a post about Armenians being happy that their past trauma is being officially recognized by the US government isn't the post for this comment?

You're absolutely right. We should give this man props for doing the least.

I'm just saying your comment came off as very dismissive of the happiness Armenians are feeling about this.

I made the „mistake“ to mention this among my turkish friends born in Germany once, lord that didn’t end well. They were blaming the Armenians for basically doing the same to them and turkey just defending themselves? I didn’t even try to get into it

(as someone w a turkish mother) it sometimes feels like turks who don't live in turkey are even more delusional about it, it's really awful. i have a few friends in turkey and they are quite literally taught in school that the genocide never happened. :/

I went to a school that had a lot of Turkish staff and got into some intense trouble after briefly mentioning the Armenian genocide in a class presentation. It was troubling seeing people I otherwise respected telling me essentially that "Armenians did bad things too"

He wanted to and for a while it seemed like he would, but then never did. "Conventional Political Wisdom" made it a risky political move and he never took the plunge.
