you’re not wrong lol. It’s probably combination of the ‘cinematic’ feel to it and the subject matter itself (true crime followers?)

I think a lot of people love it because despite the subject matter, there is very little gore or violence. These type of shows so often rely on "sexy" and glossy violence against women that not having that on screen was a big help in terms of popularity.
