I follow plenty of Better Call Saul fans on Twitter and the thirsty things they say about him ...

I personally don't find him attractive but he is a very good actor and he is charming

GvK's box office is definitely petering out pretty hard, maybe harder than I expected, but I still think movies released over the summer are gonna do okay. No idea how Mortal Kombat is gonna do, but I imagine it won't hold that well.

Getting excited about going back to the movies myself. Our local theaters are doing spacing, and we are eligible (aka both 2 weeks out from vaccination) as of Wednesday, and I am trying to decide what to go see first. I've heard great things about Shiva Baby from everyone here, so maybe that. I still need to see The Father before the Oscars, but idk if I want to see that in a theater bc I know it's gonna wreck me. Maybe Nobody? The only one of the Godzilla/Kong movies I've seen was the Skull Island one on a plane years ago, so that one doesn't really grab me, but it's definitely a theater movie... idk, man. Decisions, decisions.

I watched Rain Man, which was the only modern Best Picture winner that I hadn't seen (the other three all date from the 1920s-1930s). It's amazing to contemplate how much the theatrical industry has changed since 1988 insofar as a movie like this would never, ever have a shot at being the #1 film of the year now. People just don't go to the theatre for these kinds of stories anymore, that's all on TV and streaming.

Right? I rewatched Jerry Maguire recently and was like, I miss when nonaction movies were able to make serious bank. Like, JM wasn't THE biggest movie of the year like Rain Man was but iirc it was in the top 10 that year.

It was #9.

That era of the box office was starting to tail off by the end of the 1990s, but the final die-off was by the mid-2000s once the big-budget studio comedy ran out of gas as a genre.
