What do you mean? It's Lord of the Rings.

I guess they're asking "Is it a retelling of the movies that already exist, or new stories within Middle Earth?"

It's not though, it's a prequel series.

"Set in Middle Earth, the TV series, produced by Amazon Studios, explores new storylines preceding Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring."

Thats just...a lot of money.

It sounds like they're trying to keep things less CGI so I guess I can appreciate that but damn.

Like, did they go to actual Middle Earth or. Looks like the trilogy was made with about half that. Idk man. I get its TV and there's multiple episodes but they probably could have cut that cost somewhere.

The article mentions a lot of the budget is for building sets that will be used in Season 2 and onward so it's upfronting costs that will benefit the full production lifespan.

That makes a lot of sense, especially, if they're building a lot from scratch.

I mean I can appreciate practical sets but that number seems absurd.

I saw this the other day on twitter and was shook. Apparently this budget is for 20 episodes but it’s still a lot imo.

I just checked and Avengers Endgame had a budget of $356 million so the series budget doesn’t sound as crazy anymore lol I just hope it’s worth it and the show will actually be good
