Very heavy but gorgeous. I also found it to be a pretty quick read.

I didn't love the book, tbh - it was a quick read, for sure, but the main character didn't feel fleshed out enough to me. And obviously it's not a light read. But I'm hoping Barry has made it better!!

I thought the book was beautifully written and thought-provoking. I've also read The Nickel Boys by the same author and maybe liked it even better, though.

He has many (poor) imitators but truly no one else is doing it like barry. I can’t wait.

Is this more Black racial pain porn? Because after "Them" I don't trust Prime any more!

i would expect Barry Jenkins to have a more nuanced approach. i'm sure some of this will be devastating but i have faith in him not to be exploitative.

I love Barry Jenkins and I trust that this will be a very nice production with great acting but I’m tired of seeing stories like this. When are we finally going to get black stories that are set in space, archeological adventures or more black lead romantic comedies.

I feel like it’s either superhero stuff or black pain/trauma. The progress simply isn’t going fast enough and I’m still pissed about “Them” existing especially with the news cycle this week. I’m honestly so bitter that show has only got more people interested because it’s rightfully getting called out
