I distinctly remember being a freshman in college and going to Michigan with my family for a small vacation. We were in this little motel and a Senna documentary came on and I was immediately enthralled. I binged all these F1 docs about the engineering aspect and was sold. The main reason I got into F1 was because of him and so glad I was able to start watching just as a black man dominated the sport.

I watched season 3 and then rewatched parts of season 2. drive to survive did it's job. season 3 was the best so far (except for the lack of verstappen). bahrain was a good race and i'm excited for imola.

Yes my broke non traveling ass is living vicariously through their season. Let me have this!

But honestly, the show really got me into the sport. I’m a bit more fascinated by the physics and engineering of their cars though

Can someone explain safety cars to me? Never actually watched a race but I hear them mention a lot.

Safety cars come out on track when there is a major incident like a crash where there is a car or debris in a dangerous part of the track which would require more than a couple of laps to clear ( ... )

So the cars just follow the safety car around the track until the crash/ debris is cleared?

Yep!
No overtaking allowed, but you can pit, so there are sometimes changes in position.
