I'm curious to see how this will all play out.

"In the last 62 years of the Grammy Awards, only 10 Black artists have won album of the year as lead artists, with Stevie Wonder winning a record-tying three times."

That is shocking and unbelievable :O!

I find it shocking but sadly believable

when Taylor Swift has three AOTYs, you know that shit is for mediocre artists.

Fair enough.

If enough of the bigger/popular artists do the same, the more likely it is there'll be change.

I'd like to see this happen. If major artists all band together and do this, can real change happen? I hope so.

I don't see someone like Taylor Swift joining this. She's played this game and benefits heavily from it remaining in place.

Yeah that’s my thought too. I don’t know how many people gunning for grammy’s necessarily care the artistry of their work but, more so about the accolades and attention they’ll receive for said award. I’m just saying at this point, everyone knows these awards are so bought. If I were a successful musical artist, I would say fuck the Grammy’s in general because they don’t truly show the best in their class anymore; it’s the best their label can pay. And honestly, if it’s a bought award, how proud of it can you be

no, cause he did deserve a nomination for blinding lights *at the very least*

and if the rumor that he got snubbed from the grammys cause he appeared on the superbowl is true, that's just.. dumb as fuck. that didn't stop bruno mars!

I think he did something that bothered voters and not the organization in itself. Could be the fact he submitted for pop categories, their usual racism, maybe he did not kiss enough asses... because Abel himself said he was planning a performance for months in collaboration with the Academy. They wouldn’t think he would perform without nominations. Plus, both Super Bowl and Grammys are broadcasted in CBS.

There was a rumor in IG pages this past week that it was actually Super Bowl executives who planned his snub so they would have an exclusive performance, but that also seems unlikely because he already had performed in a million awards shows...

I hope more artists do this. I still remember when Lorde was nominated for AOTY and they didn't even let her perform.

LOL, he is SOOOOO bitter about this.

If they had only showered him with Grammys he would have kissed the ring of the establishment.

Yeah part of me is fine with him boycotting the ceremony but the other part of me is like he's only doing this cause he got snubbed this year. But had he gotten his noms while others were snubbed he'd be at the show.

Abel can be picky-choosy about these things.

he has all the right to be bitter, Blinding Lights / After Hours was a commercial success and had tons of critical acclaim, it was the song of 2020 and it's still charting high , after more than a year, he was snubbed while Bieber got a nom, anyone would be rightfully pissed.

Yeah, that's what people are missing with that particular point - Abel missing out on even being nominated is a glaring fault considering the success of his album and Blinding Lights in particular. This isn't a great but lowkey/flop song or album not being nominated, this is the most successful artist of the year, with the most successful song, and one of the most successful albums being completely snubbed.

If he got showered with nominations that would've been expected and right which is why the opposite happening highlights a big problem.
