Last night's badly produced Golden Globes ceremony is a certifiable flop. 5.42 million watched the telecast, resulting in a 1.2 18-49 demo. Both were down more than 60% from last year ( Read more... )

I haven’t seen any of the nominated movies/shows this year and am generally just not interested in any virtual shows

"Foreign language" technically, cos it's an American film and listed as such. So so so dumb

Not surprising, I didn't even know it was happening.

I only knew about it because of the other post mentioning the nominations and Emily in Paris, lmao.

The only reason I knew it was happening was someone sent me "Bruno Mars has fallen down the stairs at the Golden Globes 2021" tweet

This Vulture article about the show was hilarious to read. I didn't watch the whole thing but the awkwardness was palpable even in the snippets.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, who are famously bad at recognizing good art, are apparently incredible at accidentally creating it...here’s me on tonite’s Lynchian-psychodrama Golden Globes https://t.co/ba3Lsbnca0

I watched part of it but I muted it during the HFPA portion as well as other portions where they “acknowledged” the controversy because like, I don’t care that you’re aware of it? Just tell us what you’re going to do about it. I would rather they pretend the controversy didn’t exist than to superficially acknowledge it but not really do anything about it

Anyway the parts of it I did watch were pretty boring, the only moments I enjoyed were Jason Sudeikis’ seemingly stoned acceptance speech (relatable) and seeing Jodie Foster, her wife, and their dog! (lesbian goals)

Are this year's the least watched? Last year's Emmy's were the least watched. Emmys had 6.1 million viewers and now the globes 5.42 million. I think it's time to accept the fact the this generation is more interested in tiktok and instastories than in watching actors celebrating themselves.

I think people are tired of seeing undeserving white people win everything year after year and the same hollow calls for inclusivity year after year with no change in sight. Award shows literally mean nothing, the curtain has been pulled back and that's why we don't care anymore. It's nothing to do with Tiktok or Instagram.

Even if say, next year they get All the nominations right they won’t get the ratings or millions of viewers they had back in the late 90’s early 2000’s, those numbers are long gone. People rather watch everything online now and just wait for the YouTube videos the next day, I know that’s what I do most of the times since I tend to watch only 30 minutes/an hour Max of award shows and then go to sleep cuz I get bored.

The internet exists so I don't think anything would get the numbers of 90s/00s but even so award shows would not be a flop if the right people and stuff were getting nominated. I know for a fact Black twitter would be hyping that shit up weeks/days before they aired and having watch parties and getting it trending worldwide. No one is watching and no one cares and no one is talking about them because they're all corrupt. We all know studios and actors buy this shit so why would we watch it? Emily in fucking Paris? Lmaooo Also hosts with long history of racism like Tina fucking Fey and Blackface Jimmy Kimmel will not get us interested.
