Honestly this is pretty realistic and think it's the best way to address Catrall's absence.

I loved when Lena Dunham sort of fazed Shoshanna out of Girls, not because I didn't love the character, but because it made total sense for her character.

Just have her living in a different city? It happens a lot and you can just have the characters mention visiting or say they texted her/called her. She's in LA doing PR for celebrity scandals, they're in New York, that's life.
