OP can you give me the basics of the VF review and Mulligan's response? Cause without that info I don't know what's happening and as a member of ONTD it's common knowledge that I can't read.

I read this statement and the review he wrote a couple of times and for being a person who gets paid to write, he did a shit job of conveying his intended message.

ugh @ him leading with "i am a 60-year-old gay man" as though either of those characteristics absolve him of misogyny

gay men never pick apart women's appearances especially if they're famous what are you talking about lmao

Reading "I'm a 60-year-old gay man, so actually" just makes me think of that gif where the white gay guy is like, "I just don't think you know what it's like to be a minority" and the Asian woman he's talking to is like, "Are you fucking kidding me."

What I was attempting to write about

whenever someone tried this line on one of my college professors because of a low grade on a paper or test ("but what I was trying to say was...") they said that in writing, you either said it or you didn't. the reader can't be expected to guess what you were "trying" to say. write fucking better, professional writer man

He clearly intended to be sassy in his review because he thought it was witty and would get him attention.

Someone toss a drink in his face.

ummm some of the cruelist shit i've been told about my appearance has come from gay men

i'm a queer woman and even participating in a lot of aspects of the community can be difficult because there's so much misogyny, particularly among white cishet gay men tbh

Yeah bb I got you. Basically some dude for Vanity Fair wrote in his review of "Promising Young Woman" that it wasn't believable that Carey Mulligan's character would get targeted for sexual assault because she's not as hot as Margot Robbie (who was an executive producer on the movie). Mulligan rightfully called this review out for being stupid and ignorant, and VF issued an apology. This post is about how the critic is not happy that he's being critiqued.
