+ HBO and BBC One have renewed His Dark Materials for an eight-episode final season, with production expected to kick off in 2021 in Cardiff, Wales

I mean, I figured it would only be three seasons since there are only three books so not a surprise. I figured that it was more likely it would be canceled early rather than get more than three seasons.

I think they filmed 1 and 2 back to back, that's why this season was on so fast and not hindered by the pandemic.

They had to scrap an episode because of the pandemic actually. There were supposed to be 8 episodes this season, the 7 we saw and 1 focussing exclusively on James McAvoy's character.
