I stanned this show for a decade and now I truly can’t be bothered to watch this season. You could just feel how over it everyone was last season - writers, actors, directors, craft services, it just has zero inspiration. They should have let it die with season 9...honestly season 4 cuz it was perfect but I’ll allow it through 9 if I must.
Shameless is the type of show that should have 7 seasons *at most.* I'm trying to see if I can marathon my way through the whole series to watch the last season but I don't know if I'll make it. It's hard to watch characters make the same fuck ups over and over again.
This is probably my biggest issue with the show, there really wasn't much character development AT ALL. I guess one could argue that that is kind of the point of the show (especially if you've seen the original), but it's so hard not to get frustrated at all these characters never learning, and just repeating the same mistakes.
Fiona always seemed to be "developing" but it always came crashing down around her. In all, Mickey has probably changed the most, but they hardly focused on his character at all.
I stopped watching this years ago, so I've just recently sat down and watched it from start to it's current season and it was honestly really consistent right up until the end of season 9, but season 10 just felt flat.
I feel like credit really has to be given to Emmy Rossum, the wind completely went out of the sails when she left.
It also really pisses me off that they spent 9 seasons sidelining Ian and Mickey's story and only really started exploring it now when the shows lost its mojo.
I've been watching from the start again as well, I'm planning to see if I can make it to where I dropped off and see the seasons I missed.
It was really different in the beginning, I love Emmy Rossum but I actually don't think she held it together for me because there was a point where all the characters were just annoying me. Rewatching it I think it starts around when Joan Cusack leaves and Debbie starts growing up to be extra strength annoying.
It was also painful watching some of Ian's early bipolar days. I just want good things for him.
I feel like Fiona was the only character that ever earned the right to have a questionable moment, I pretty much hated nearly every other character at one point or another for various reasons (especially Lip, who I felt never had perspective, especially when it came to Fiona) but Fiona always felt grounded to me, even at her worst when she became an alcoholic I felt like she'd earned that right and everyone was an asshole to her about it, when they should have been helping her. When she left it felt like the "heart" of the show was gone.
I guess Ian/Mickey now carry that torch, but they didn't spend nearly enough time developing them in the earlier 9 seasons, so it's not really working.
I don't really watch anymore but is carl a cop to pull off a con or something? I can't imagine why they would make any of the characters aspire to be cops after what they've been through and especially after this year in real life.
I was talking with a friend yesterday about this thing but... just how much did they flipped over the timeline (debbie's mainly).
Last episode she was talking about being 19, iirc? But she was also 9 months older than the supposed minor she has had sex with which put her on the list? And now Frannie is 5? But Kev and V's kids look at max 2 years older than Frannie?
Honestly, never in my life has a tv show timeline made me feel so much like the confused blonde lady meme...
This show might be a mess (most shows are, after running more than 10 years) but for me it's still an enjoyable and entertaining mess. I'll miss it very much when it's over!
