My mom died with nearly a million dollars in medical debt, in the process of claiming bankruptcy. I had to deal with debt collectors for months after. Worrying about that debt did nothing good for her health, and dealing with it after she died was a nightmare. People shouldn't have to make healthcare decisions based on whether or not they'll be able to pay, or have to go bankrupt or die if they can't.

Chris Pratt won't ever have to deal with any of that - fuck him for this and for his general existence.

Debt collectors are the worst.

My aunt is an attorney and she told me to avoid all of their calls until she could work it out (and she did), but the debt collector who was trying to get me to pay my mom's overdue cell phone bill called my dad and stepmother - whose number they had for some reason - and told my stepmother that I was writing bad checks and that I was going to get arrested if I didn't call back immediately. So that was lovely.

With the debt collection laws, you have the right to tell them to stop calling and only contact you by mail. Twist, scammers will keep calling because they can't use the mail because they're committing mail fraud since they're not legally able to collect on the account.

I'm sad your aunt just told you to dodge them and didn't gut them like the low lives they are.

I'm so sorry you went through this. Especially since they resorted to fucking lying about you. That sounds like they bought debt and were really not interested in following the law. Hint, the law is very much on the side of the consumer. But debt collection scum will gaslight everyone into believing differently. :(
