Someone asking "Isn't this how roots started" will never not gut me when I see this image.

Yeah I’m a little confused by Naomis post. I do worry Adesuwa could get blacklisted for this, but she isn’t wrong for calling it out.

I also appreciate this callout on a personal level though lol. My Nigerian friends in London never hesitated to call me or anyone else out in our circle for any ignorant moment. And it was a good thing because lord knows everyone needs a reality check. (One time I wore a bomber jacket because *fashion* and a friend of a friend tore me down and told me all the fuck about teddy boys in the UK and what his family and him went through. Needless to say that shit went in a charity bin.)

Can you explain the connection between bomber jackets and Teddy Boys? Their whole look was very much not that kind of style so I'm confused.

I know they aren’t typically associated with Teddy boys but my friend said they used to be running around beating up immigrants in Brixton, sometimes in bomber jackets which later also became associated with skinheads and neonazis. That’s what he said. I mean I know fashion wise teddy boys didn’t line up with military style fashion, but regardless. I still was like “Ehhhh I can pass on this”

It’s not an era I knew much about cause I didn’t move to the UK until 2010 lol.

What do bomber jackets have to do with teddy boys?

The megolomania of that tweet is truly inspiring. Imagine having that kind of narcissism? The entire world is your lake!!

But seriously, this is one of those events that you can see is so intertwined with our current world system. When oligarchies and kleptocracies "solve" problems they fester for years and the same people lose again and again. Particularly women. I have close friends from so many countries, and I find myself repeating the same lines. How their protests are inspiring but we shouldn't be in a place where this has to be our inspiration! "look, they're willing to die for what's right!" shouldn't be something we say with awe. Protest in all it's forms should be a right and should not be a death sentence.

And celebs should really stick to staring at their personal lakes instead of trying to bring awareness. It's just sad.
