These are almost exclusively Letterman clips because my best friend Andrea and I had a crush on him when we were in junior high and we even saw Cabin Boy on the big screen because he had a very brief cameo. The one non Letterman clip is the titular daytime television clip.

1. Crispin Glover on Letterman (1987)

Have you ever been in a live studio audience? analievelyn September 29 2020, 02:57:00 UTC
was it whatever? what was surprising?

I would have loved to be in the live audience for a show like Ellen back in the day bc she has awesome guests. but i wouldnt actually do that knowing what she's like now.

If you hang out at Rockefeller center long enough, some page will ask you if you want to be in the studio audience for some show or another

I've been in Conan's audience before and honestly the celeb interviews are the worst part, especially because the camera crew zooms in so you're really separated from it. In person it's also way more obvious that the interviews are really fake.

The best part is the sketches and opening monologue and that's what makes it fun to be there.

I've been in the audience for a Conan taping twice, can confirm, all of this is absolutely accurate. Also, they make you do a couple of canned laughs before shooting starts so they can use it on the audio later if needed. It's super awkward.

That Madonna interview is my first memory of late night television. Not the interview itself, as I am Australian and was 7 at the time, but the intense discussion about it in the aftermath on the news and so forth, it was ridiculous.

it's not technically late night tv, but it was late at night, and it was an interview on tv
