I'm interested to see what happens in the Comedy categories next year, seeing as we've now had two years in a row where a show swept in out of nowhere and won a majority/all of the big prizes for its final season. Does Mrs. Maisel, which was a huge winner in its first season and then got lots of nominations and a few wins for the next two, default to being the frontrunner again? Is there some other series primed to experience a sudden surge in voter affections?

A lot of this year's winners aren't even going to be able to mount a title defense given filming schedule disruption, though I believe that Euphoria's planned bridge episode(s) would qualify it in the miniseries/TV movie category for that year, so Zendaya and co. could be nominated in a different category depending on the reception.

Hmmm idk what shows will resume production when but it seems like Maisel will sure get a nom and maybe Russian Doll S2 depending on how good that season is, because I feel like that show could’ve won a few years back if it wasn’t for Fleabag, and the plot of it seems to lend itself to the Groundhog Day mentality everyone is experiencing. I don’t know much about the the other shows that were nominated this year like Insecure and Kominsky method but they might get nominated again just because there’s so few new comedies coming? Idk I feel like all the big name comedies on network have all ended and everyone is switching to a 40/50 minute streaming drama rather than making 30 minute comedies so it seems like slim pickings tbh. And who knows if the shows I mentioned will be made this year, I don’t know when the cut off point for emmys is supposed to be.

Maisel lost lots of hype for the 3rd season, they need to make a great S4 for it to sweep again and i don't think that is going to happen, i like the show but it definitely isn't the best, i love Rachel though.

Is Barry returning soon?

Barry is meant to begin filming again in Feb, and I'm not sure they'll be ready to meet the Emmy cut off date, given that they have waited to have the entire season in the can before airing last two seasons, but we'll see what happens!

if Maya Erskine isn't nominated for best comedy actress then throw the whole award show away

I personally don't have a ton of opinions yet - it's too far out, and hopefully we'll see a lot more new stuff between now and then. But it's true that it'll be more interesting than the usual Emmy season!

I do really hope I May Destroy You gets some recognition, because it was fantastic. And from everything I'm hearing about the Small Axe episodes at NYFF, it's gonna do well!

I feel that I May Destroy You is going to sweep, a la Fleabag

If HBO campaigns right, i believe they will, the thing is how they will submit? as limited? comedy? drama?

I feel like it has to be limited series, I feel like Michaela Coel said there wouldn't be a second series, which is very understandable.

Seconding I think it will be limited series, as there isn't a second series plan (which makes sense)

Any period drama tv recs and/or good shows to watch with an autumn vibe?

I just finished watching Dickinson which I felt was so underrated. Was High Fidelity with Zoe Kravitz good?

I was shocked at how much I enjoyed that series. I hope we get a season 2.
