I love that he's talking like this and what he says about respect.

man I remember the racist johnson/tlj stans on here trying to lump the fans who were disappointed with Finn's character arc in with the racist dudebros. while it's nice to see that the actual actor in the movie is confirming a lot of the things we have been saying, it's disheartening to see how John got into the trilogy with such enthusiasm and was promised a leading role only for everything to amount to this. it's also not lost on me that while he says his white co-stars "know", I haven't seen any of them actually call out the unjust treatment of the poc characters.

Well, Daisy had it just as hard as John did, you know.

lmao oh I know. funny how those bnfs/fans tried to start smear campaigns against John over him supposedly not supporting Kelly Marie Tran, yet his white co-stars are out there either saying shit like that or staying radio silent about their privileged treatment. wonder why they haven't received the same treatment from the fandom

lol they’ve been busy this week pretending that genre film crit jobs are a meritocracy and white women/gay men are the only proof of diversity needed for any publication/editors to escape criticism

I don’t give a fuck about Star Wars but it’s clear he did, and for him to have such a terrible experience with it is heartbreaking.

He seems to have a ton of support around him, and he also seems like someone who is very strong and resilient, but he still shouldn’t have had to go through all that. Fuck all those fuckers.

he's defending a friend here but JJ did him no favours

But JJ is not the end all be all of the decision making and John is probably more so defending the fact that JJ had to comw back after 2 or 3 directors left/fired from the doing tge last trilogy.

Yeah I’m trying to read between the lines. Is he blaming Rian for the direction JJ had to take Finn’s character? Like saying he essentially had to come in to clean the mess? I barely remembered what happened in the second one (clearly my memory is also great because I can’t keep the titles straight) and I still don’t remember why everybody was mad at Rian and he had to be fired.

I think JJ clearly set up Finn as a main character with a really compelling arc and Rian fucked that up and wrote his character into a corner. I would have loved to see what JJ would have done if he got the second movie but at the same time, I don't want to sound like I had a ton of faith in JJ. At the same time, TFA really seemed like it was going to go somewhere with Finn.

i fully support him

star wars fans are one of the most toxic fandoms, full of a lot of disgusting racist/sexist assholes who are obsessed with reylo. i'm glad he's speaking his mind but it's so sad that he had to experience that, it's just not acceptable

it sounds hyperbolic but he's the only "main" white male character that's around rey's age (i assume?) so they persued him as rey's other half. that's my take. she should have stayed male-free except for the friendship of finn and poe.
