Happy to see a post about this! I followed her on ig for her sewing and DIY stuff then realized she was on Fringe. She eloquently stated her thoughts on the show and the first comment was from a white preson saying "I'm sorry but I enjoyed the jokes and they are not racist." I just don't get how white people think they can decide this.

Wow I never considered how the joke could be racist back when I loved this show. I suppose that´s why her name was Astrid, and not something more 'ethnic', so they could get away with it.

I always found it so cute on the show because of Walters and Astrids special relationship, how horrible that they treated her this way :(

Glad she´s speaking up!

“Spending a lifetime of trying to fit in and laugh WITH the white... kids instead of being laughed AT was a coping mechanism that followed me into adulthood.”

Whew, can relate to that. 😢 Good for her for speaking up and fuck those racist producers and show runners.

i'm currently re-watching fringe and she is absolutely right. both astrid and jasika are treasures who shouldn't have been made to deal with all the bullshit they got

My boyfriend and I are in the middle of a rewatch too! It’s his all time favorite show and I had never seen it. She’s been a fave from the start so it’s a bummer to see how hard of a time she had.

She noted that certain directors on the show refused to get her real-life name right, getting support from co-star Joshua Jackson.

I first thought Josh was giving support to the directors for not getting her name right.
Glad to read that he was not such a dick.

I loved her on the show and she was fantastic on Welcome to Night Vale and Alice isn't dead, her voice is so calming to listen to.

I remember some of the wrong names Walter used for Astrid and thinking it was a fun little running gag, but I clearly wasn't thinking about the optics of it, especially in the long run of the shows story and how Walter and his relationship with Astrid developed.

Yessss she is the greatest of all interns <3 Once I realized it was her voicing the character I got so excited when Dana was featured in an episode.
