lol god were you on that thread about the woman who tweeted the thought experiment about how NHL teams should donate 25 sticks to a pro women's team every time one of their players breaks a perfectly good stick in anger? Which devolved into a circlejerk of people being like (LITERALLY) "I'm sure the NHL could easily think of 10 more deserving causes" and of course "nobody cares about women's sports or ever will". I actually had to stop watching the playoffs for a day or two after that thread cause I felt so fucking alienated and depressed about anything remotely associated with hockey after that. I'm new to watching hockey and I knew in my head that the whole culture around it was really misogynistic and hostile to women, but that was the first time I really encountered it personally and knew it in my heart, and it sucked so bad.
Yep! I rage quit after a few minutes though. They are so ignorant and pig headed and they clearly do not respect women’s hockey. They will never come around because they don’t think it’s a real sport, or as good as the NHL. And it’s really funny because I know that quite a few NHL players that are massive supporters and fans of women’s hockey, but these losers sitting at home think they are great hockey minds who get to decide what good hockey is.
But I love every female fan that I’ve met, it’s such a cool group. At least we have each other!
This is a very shitty comment for so many reasons but the literal the implication that there aren't women in the bubble bugs me to no end.
I walk through the arena that the games are in - there is raised path that connects to other office buildings so you can cut through but aren't able to access the stadium itself - and saw tons of healthcare workers, many of them women, covered in PPE preparing for the media, athletes, workers etc to come through.
Like the idea that women aren't out there putting thier lives at risk, like so many already in healthcare, so that these stupid men can play a sport? He can fuck right off.
