Why are people so against reading subtitles?

1) The film is 10+ years old

2) Reading subtitles while trying to watch Whats taking place doesn't allow the viewer to emerge themselves into the film and they'll need repeat viewings; time and money.

3) The majority of people don't want to put in the energy to read subtitles.
