  • Some of Book!Artemis comes through, sometimes it's this completely 'nice' movie version.
  • The acting is fine though.
Currently sitting pretty at 31 on Metacritic 😳 and 15% on Rotten Tomatoes 😩

It added so much joy to my day omg

"Rarely in the history of cinema has so much tortured exposition failed so completely to explain such an undistinguished plot."

Isn't this based on a book where the main character is [Spoiler (click to open)]a rich asshole who's pissed he's as rich as he's supposed to, kidnaps a girl and asks for ransom?

I read that the movie made the Artemis fella sympathetic and changed the whole premise of the book.

It's been a while since I've read them so I'm skimming the wiki as i type, but [SPOILER] he wants to restore the family fortune (which i think he only lost in trying to find his father?) but also wishes for his mother's insanity (as a result of her husband's death) to be cured. but yes, he kidnaps a fairy (who in the book is an adult) to hold her for ransom for both the money and to get the wish.

he wants to steal the gold to find his missing father and wants a fairy to grant him a wish so his sick mother gets better

I just read this one from the Independent: https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/reviews/artemis-fowl-review-disney-judi-dench-disney-adaptation-cast-director-a9558451.html

I can't get over this: Dame Judi Dench steps out of the shadows, clad in green leather like a post-apocalyptic citizen of Oz. She is Commander Julius Root, an elf of Irish fairytale made flesh. She’s also a cop. With a wisened growl, she faces her adversaries with a cry of, “Top o’ the morning”.
