I dealt with a lot of vitriol from white women bc a lot of them latched on to me as their token black gay friend. And anyway, I used to say I don't give a shit just to keep the peace bc I knew deep down if I said something I'm on my own. At the time I was in college and miles away from my parents so I just kept telling myself I got this, I can do it on my own, I don't give a shit. Then all these years later everything is bubbling over and I realize damn, I gave a shit, should've said something, should've gone to therapy earlier for it.
