So I don't know really anything about Castro other than what I've heard from growing up from media and stuff I heard from family tell me. So my view of him had always been negative. But I've seen people in the past couple years give him a lot of praise for ideas he had, and I was always taught he was basically a Hitler type, etc. So now I don't know what to really think? I bring this up because I know Bernie praised him or his ideas at least, and people are now saying he'll ruin the country cause he's a communist, etc. I'm a big Bernie supporter though.

there are right wing and left wing authoritarian regimes, all are equally condemnable, but i think you should point out how the us seems to always favour the right wing ones, including one that led to castro's successful revolution in the first place. you can only remind them that bernie condemns them, and explaining that he only agreed with their literacy and healthcare programs, ala obama.

Castro is a dictator and violated human rights but white right-wing Cuban-Americans boomer and the USA in general are generally not good sources to have an unbiased view of him and Cuba's history. the "Fidel = Hitler" thing so many are fed is just as damaging as ppl who think Fidel is a hero above good and bad. everything Cuba related is taught in the US with a very imperialistic right-wing frame (which is also how it's taught by Latin-America right. but in Latin America there's no consensus over Fidel being 'good' or 'bad', 'hero' or 'villain' like there is in the USA
