But isnt that what happens when artist go mainstream?

They switch it up to gain a wider appeal.

Her roles would stay limited were she to continue doing..what she was doing.

So, she shouldn't have been doing it in the first place. Because it's fake. It's not a matter of her "code-switching" because she has mainstream appeal now, which might be understandable.

It sucks, for sure, because the representation is/would be amazing and from what I hear, she did perform well in The Farewell. But, her appropriation is nagl and getting to prop yourself up on stereotypes of another group is not just racist but also regressive; what type of progress for POC truly is being gained that way? It's a constant push and pull.
