I hope Antonio can take it as well! Haven’t seen Portrait yet, it was either released as a blip here or hasn’t yet been released in my city which is weird cause it’s a film town.

Any 1917 converts here?

Saw it and was sobbing so hard during ~that scene~

A little too long, but I was really moved by it and it was definitely visually stunning.

Must've it's my politics it whatever, but it def felt critical of war in some respects

I’m really looking forward to seeing it and glad to hear you liked it! I’m anti war but will see any war movie, I think it’s the historical context that always instills the high drama and emotional impact that I find really fascinating

i saw it weeks ago and while i get the gimmick argument (and WW movie fatigue), it really was a beautifully shot film, and does have an emotional heart

I am still not getting the Renée praise at all. There are amazing performances this year and here is just a slightly better performance than her Cold Mountain one.

Renée winning so many awards is so weird to me. The movie is meh, the performance is alright but nothing amazing. I don’t get it. You can’t say it’s a makeup for past snubs, she already got that for Chicago/Cold Mountain. I guess the whole return after like a decade of disappearing, idk. Not ready for her yeehaw-ing it up on stage a million times.

Either way, my girl Saoirse and the Portrait women getting robbed ain’t right!!!

Yeah, the movie was decent but it didn't amaze me and I've seen better performances withing the past year. But then again it's a clear awards bait movie, so it also makes sense she's winning awards.
