I don't think he changed anything. His entire career has just been nothing but a boomerang, a rehash of things that were done by big artists many decades ago and many times over and it became a retro thing again with Bruno Mars leading the way before him.

His sound and entire shtick is not unique and I think he'll be barely remembered. His sound was always very electronic so idk why you think he broke EDM.

Versus the clubby music that was coming out in the time period I mentioned? His music was drastically different. At least his Trilogy era releases were.

and I wouldn’t say his early stuff was a rehash of anything from before, especially comparing to the retro sound Bruno Mars is doing. The two of them in 2011 were not making similar music.
