Oh yay a post! C+P my comment from Roundup:

I thought it was a great start! Two little things that make total sense but blew my mind: All this time, since I was a kid, in my head, I’d been pronouncing Lyra as “Lee-rah,” not “Lie-rah” + Pan having a kid’s voice. Like ofc a kid’s dæmon would have a kid’s voice but when I was that age reading these books I imagined him sounding like an adult tbh.

Also the music in the title sequence is still stuck in my head (and when I first watched it I got CHILLS).

I'm thankful for having gotten into the book series right around when the movie was coming out so I had the proper pronunciation already. With Harry Potter, I spent 3 years running around calling Hermione "Hermy-ohn".

A lot of people did this tbh! I dunno how my 7th grade teacher found out the proper pronunciation since that was before the movies, but I'm glad she did and told us all.

What a saint of a teacher tbh! I remember vividly going to see the first movie and my dad turning to me like "O_o" when they first said her name in it and he never lets me live down any of the dumb pronunciations I used as a voracious child reader. The one he most often gets me with is "irrevocably" which I used to pronounce "Ear-ruh-vok-ably".

Good gods, James McAvoy did it for me, even though his age is catching up and at the start it felt like his accent was moving around a bit ?

But it looks so good and high risks straight away and I'm here for it!

Didn't watch yet, but ugh, he's so hot. Is anyone going to see him in Cyrano?!

Ugh, I am so jealous!! I saw him a few years ago in The Ruling Class and he was incredible on stage. Really wish I could have come to see this one, too. I hope you report back!

I was pretty meh on it, but I think part of it was due to my own mindset while watching. Plus I need to get used to watching kid acting again. Ruth Wilson did a great job though.
