Anyone read The Testaments? The only reviews from people I follow on GR I've seen so far have said it's deeply unnecessary.

I want to know if there's been any examination of dystopias from different countries. For example, I think that Kazuo Ishiguro's Never Let Me Go is quite possibly the most British dystopia ever. Whereas American dystopias always go for the most extreme violence in the most extreme ways. I'm not sure where The Handmaid's Tale fits because Margaret Atwood's perspective is extremely Canadian, but obviously, also American.

Haruki Murakami does some dystopian-esque stuff but it's so mixed in with his magical realism that it's hard to analyze just by a dystopian POV

good point, i'm curious to know now too!

I've never read any Murakami, but that description makes me very interested

Man, it must be so hard to do a book tour + events like this while you're grieving.

Graeme Gibson, Toronto author and poet and husband to Margaret Atwood, has died at the age of 85 in London, England. He was accompanying Atwood on the tour for her widely anticipated book The Testaments, a sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale.https://t.co/6uTSbzePrO

oh no :/ I feel so bad for her, I didn't get why Sunny said that her thoughts were with her/her family.

She seemed so composed. I can't imagine.

I was just coming here to comment about that. I go to Pelee Island fairly often and their work is often noted there. I loved his fascination with birds!

R.I.P.

That definitely has to be hard on her. I see it says he had dementia. At least she was able to be with him during his final days. And hopefully their daughter and others are there to support each other.

I had the opportunity to hear Atwood speak (and have her sign my copy of the blind assassin) at a book signing last year. She was amazing. I love her.
