i remember reading about this song in the pet shop boys's literally issue, there were some fan tinhattery conspiracies about it (relevant only to psb stans lol so nvm) but i think they themselves disliked the kylie version in the end.

This is true from what I know. There is a demo of it on a reissue of "Very" I believe? That has noticeably different production from the final version and a more fleshed out chorus. I prefer the atmosphere of the version that ended up on the Kylie album tbh.
