You may have noticed a theme of positivity in my last TIFF post, but it doesn't continue here. Not every movie that makes it into a film festival is worth your time, and OP is here to sift through some of the clunkers for you! This is not an exhaustive list, by any means, just films that OP managed to see.

also i want finn wolfhard's jacket. its like an old timey movie theater usher costume but in a good way?

oh and i usually have a film i'm excited to see by now but i'm just...over everything. everything just sounds standard/fine or boring.

I need to know if the Goldfinch is like so bad it’s must see. Like is it hilariously bad or just meh bad. Anyone seen it?

I saw someone say Finn in The Goldfinch is something like “a Slavic, androgynous Bette Davis” and I genuinely don’t know if it’s an insult or a compliment. I mean if I got that review I’d make that my bio on all social media platforms for all eternity.

Very disappointed to hear more than a few people say that they kinda underplayed adult Boris’s role in the last half of the movie

Hah @ that description! Finn's accent is a little all over the place, but I think he captured book Boris pretty well. I don't remember enough specifics about the end of the book to say if the second part of your comment is true, though.

Another reviewer said that Ansel had “incongruous meathead energy” which is also poetry but that one I can clearly see is a negative lmao

yeah I've read that he's mostly comic relief? Or that their relationship as kids is so underplayed that it makes little sense for him to show up as an adult to help Theo

I went on Sunday and I wanted to go today but I couldn't find a single thing that I felt like paying $25 plus travel expenses/eating out to go see.

Seems like awards season is going to be pretty dull this year... I guess The Joker will sweep

I wouldn't count on The Joker sweeping. This year's films are better than last year, it's going to have competition on all fronts.
