Pop culture always remembers the Slave 4 U performance but the oops i did it again was always my favorite.

VMA Oops is my FAVE Britney performance EVAH! When I was a kid, I would put it on rewatch and try to learn the dance moves.

I don’t even understand how that’s a question. That Oops performance changed the game for Britney and I remember downloading the mixed song from a torrent lol it was so good.

The article I saw said the ratings were the same as last year. Weird. There was a decline in 18-49 yr olds watching though and a rise in 50+ which people thought might be why the host was making jokes targeting young people, like the VMAs cater to older people now lmao. It's crazy, 10 years ago the VMAs had 27 million viewers (on 3 channels) and now they're not even getting 5 million over 12 channels.

I know that streaming is taking over and ratings have dropped because times have changed, but just the same, so have the VMA's. They just aren't what they used to be and the younger generation probably wouldn't care if they were. The whole concept and execution hasn't aged well.

Yeah I feel that even if you make it stream-able, the youths still won't be checking in as much.

The lack of heavy-hitters in attendance and the fact that the VMAs have lost their importance to the artists in general kinda seals the deal.

People used to tune in to see their faves live, maybe with a twist on their hits, or even just to see them on the red carpet or in the audience...but now they get that all the time on YouTube and social media

Agreed. Plus it's pretty meh knowing that everyone who's there is pretty much guaranteed an award. It's much less genuine and I think the younger generation can see that.
