While I would insist on keeping the pets, I also wouldn't want to be with someone who wouldn't want them in this kind of situation. And sometimes people break up and neither person wants them and it's like, why did you have them then?

Horses are a different kind of thing, though.

I see the argument for keep the # of dogs (and cats) lower, because they require personal attention regardless of how much space you have for them. Horses can be content just chilling with their herd and adding more doesn't change their quality of life unless they don't get along.
