Early Reviews for It: Chapter 2 are In - Hader is a Star

Aug 21, 2019 10:24

#ITChapterTwo is big and ambitious and can't *quite* handle the weight of its aspirations, but it's still a fine piece of heartfelt horror. The parts that work, work REALLY well and Bill Hader is every-bit the scene-stealing standout we all hoped he'd be.

God, this trend of needlessly long ass movies needs to stop.

You mean the trend that began in 1930s lol because most modern films are pretty short.

Can't wait! Though the "lack of chemistry" comment definitely worries me a bit.

Honestly I hope this great press helps Bill get the edge over TMMM at the Emmys (I love TMMM, but the way Amazon is spending so much on their Emmys campaign is making me root against them)

I have yet to finish Barry S2 and honestly I enjoy TMMM more as a show overall, but I would not be mad if he swept everything. I love him lol.

It isn’t that hard to stand out in a movie where the two main leads are incredibly miscast. Bill is already great but it’s highlighted by Bill McAvoy and Beverly Chastain.

LMAO same. I kinda love that name now. Beverly Chastain...Weather Girl!

How are they miscast? Now that ONTD officially dislikes Chastain I suppose people are trying to sell the narrative that she's a weak actress. Her personality might be dull as fuck and surely she's very white feminist, but that woman can act. James is a great actor too.

I’m still excited as hell for this movie. Better an ambitious movie than one that doesn’t take any risks you know. I feel like Endgame and Midsommar were both practice runs for Chapter Two’s 2h45m runtime, and really all I want is a cohesive story, good character moments, and some scares.

Now. I’m gonna scream about Bill Hader and his storyline under the cut bc SPOILERS! SERIOUS SPOILERS [Spoiler (click to open)] First off, I cannot wait to be the smug person who always knew that Bill Hader was this amazing #WatchBarryonHBO and also seasons 1 and 2 of Documentary Now on Netflix!

Second of all...I cannot believe that they actually made Richie canonically queer. Like. It’s canon that Richie has always been in love with Eddie. The YEARNING! The DEVASTATION! I still don’t know how much subtext Eddie’s character is gonna have, but honestly I’m taking this Richie storyline and running. I was really expecting them to ignore the Reddie of it all, but the fact that it becomes such an important part of Richie’s arc is so good

[Spoiler (click to open)]i don't know what's funnier, all those reddit bros' reaction to reddie or finn wolfhard's reaction when he learned what will happen considering he said in the past they're like brothers. i'm quite excited since i think bill will kill it, it's a shame that it doesn't end happily for richie and eddie. i just hope he doesn't forget him after.

[Spoiler (click to open)] I think Finn said that in 2017, so I don’t wanna be too hard on him about the “they’re like brothers” thing. This was back when everyone was shipping him with the kid who played Eddie so I def think that influenced what he said.

But Reddit bros were seriously throwing tantrums and refusing to believe that people found subtext in a 1000+ page book! They’re so ridiculous. Eddie and Richie’s ending is heartbreaking enough I don’t like thinking about the possibility that Richie will forget.

[Spoiler (click to open)]yeah, i don't blame finn for that since people love to ship him with anyone he so much talks to lmao. poor guy.

it's so funny to me how reddit bros think the 13 year old reddie shippers is what made reddie canon. the subtext was always there. it's cool that they're finally going through with it although i wish it had a happy ending.
