Earlier this year in January, country singer Brett Eldredge told his Instagram followers that he was giving up his smartphone for his old LG flip phone from 2002.

“That was the year I got my first color flip phone with a lil megapixel camera on it...I felt like a bad ass...I would carry it everywhere I went but never look at it to check the never ending ‘Breaking News’ or constantly compare my life to someone else’s,” he wrote in his original post.

Eight months later he’s opening up about how much of a difference his life is without a smartphone saying it was the best decision he’s made.

“I recommend it to everybody,” he says. “I know it’s a commitment, but I was the guy that was on it all the time. It’s created that way, so that we’re all on it. But I think I got to the point where I was like, ‘I want to connect on such a deeper level.’ I think it’s going to take a lot of self awareness to do this, and that’s what I’ve done. I feel really so much better; I sleep so much better now.”
