• verizon is selling tumblr to automattic, the company behind the blogging tool wordpress. while the size of the deal has not been publicly announced it's estimated at less than $3 million.

Why did they ban the porn again? Like it seems like such an easy fix... bring back the porn!

I think it was because of child pornography being somewhere in the mix? I remember some users calling staff lazy for not wanting to deal with it.

Def what the user above said. I (thank God) never saw any child porn but it was such a problem that iTunes took it off the app store for awhile and then they scrambled to clean it up.

tbh, I still use tumblr and I like it better without the porn. But the world revolves around porn so I am not surprised that banning it was bad for business.

I don't use it for porn but there is a lot of nudity in art and film and it's such b.s. that those images are now blocked. I run a blog about women directors and there are a lot of women using nudity in a subversive way or even a non-sexual way and it's really frustrating that those images just get lumped in with porn and censored.

A tangential complaint but I noticed (and I've heard other people say this as well) that a lot of non-pornographic images of lesbians kissing or cuddling or holding hands were all censored by the algorithm which just really makes me wonder wtf was going on there.
