The new horror release 'Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark' started off this busy box office weekend with a take of $2.3 million from Thursday night previews. It's expected to make somewhere between $15 million and $19 million this weekend (on a $28M budget), as is 'Dora and the Lost City of Gold' (with a $49 million budget).

'Dora' made $1.3 million in previews, while Disney/Fox's 'The Art of Racing in the Rain' made $450,000 at preview screenings on Thursday. The fourth major release this weekend, 'The Kitchen', didn't have Thursday night previews, and debuts today.

Even with all these new releases, 'Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw' and 'The Lion King' are expected to battle it out for the 1-2 spots this weekend, followed by 'Scary Stories' and 'Dora'.
