This is infuriating. If people really care about climate change, they don't need the event to be in some super location to entice them. The organizers could have chosen a location central to where the majority of attendees are based.

I understand the issues with safety and commercial travel AND the realities that these people travel with entourage of security. They could have chartered enough planes to accommodate the attendees and their security, and it still wouldn't have amounted to 117 planes.

If these people are serious about climate change and serious about the sacrifices we ALL have to make for the sake of the planet, they could have handled sitting in coach for two flights (even if they got 3 seats to themselves), if commercial planes were chartered for these private flights.

What this says to me is that they're interested in climate change entertainment and luxury vacations to discuss things, but have zero interest in sacrificing for the sake of the environment/climate change.

Are these even the right people to be making decisions about climate change? I want scientists, policy makers, and activists who know how to influence change to be there, not Harry Styles.

I missed the forest for the trees there. You're absolutely correct. The time for pandering to opinion leaders has come and gone. It's time for real change and solutions. They shouldn't be investing in people who can only deliver the message. I suppose there's the chance that they hold summits for people like this because they have the money to donate in order to sponsor scientists, etc. to bring about solutions and put them in action?

All I can think of is that there are island nations that have less than 5-10 years for things to change, and even then, they'll never get their land back, they'll still have ocean where their backyards once were. But in a few years they'll have to abandon homes that housed generations and generations of their ancestors. In light of that, this climate change coachella is really, really gratuitous.

I think the real change is known, except maybe how to really force it. Those who were there or their buddies would have to give up their opulent lifestyles and ridiculous wealth to actually make a difference. I'm thinking stuff like how aggressively shit is marketed, factories that pollute the environment, and so on.

One of the problems of capitalism, wealth and power doesn't end up in the hands of the most intelligent and kind people. :/

Yeah, this is just an opportunity for rich people to meet up and partake is an exclusive party while chitchatting about sacrifices the plebs need to make. It's like the Soho House Summit.

I mean, apparently Harry Styles is a lesbian icon, who's to say that he can't be a climate change expert as well.

Yeah, there's no reason for this to not be in California or something.
