my friend did something similar during her wedding. she didn't outright ban social media, but she and her husband said no cameras during the ceremony proper. it was really nice not having a whole slew of cameras blocking my view trying to catch the first kiss shot.

i'm going thru old camcorder tapes from high school years to rip to digital (filmed between 98 and 2002).

It's such a different time. Nobody with a smartphone. And it was a novelty for someone to have a video camera around (and a large item, that didn't have a long lasting battery).

You kids today with your handheld devices that can film+edit and entire feature film and record+master an entire album these days....

it's a perfectly reasonable request. that being said, a lot of companies are tying social media into their offerings. i went to a wedding where the photobooth only printed out pictures when you posted the pic on instagram with a specific hashtag so of course everyone would take pics at the booth and then go back to their table to post everything online asap, lol. but that was only during the reception.
