Somehow I didn't realize they had a random walking the dog until your comment. I thought one of them were walking their dog.

Yea same, that would scar me and I probably wouldn't want to do the job anymore in general tbh, at least for awhile. A lot of things are just accidents and no one is to blame but that doesn't make you feel better in the situation.

Very sad. I imagine everyone feels awful but in situations like this it truly is an accident.

:(

There was a big ginger tabby that lived in one of the bottom floor apartments in my building (they open up to outside, so they have big gardens) and he used to greet everyone who came up the steps. He got hit by a car recently and died. He wasn't even my cat and I've been sad about it.

i follow the Pet Loss subreddit and the number of cats hit by cars is upsetting. i have to stop myself from urging people to keep the cats indoor only.

It's one of the reasons why I'm not allowing any of my cats outdoors (once we're not in an apartment, natch). It's just too risky.

I used to be a dog walker and it was mostly fun, but was at times so stressful. Especially in NYC. Dealing with other people around, other people's dogs, other people's kids, the cars...

RIP to this sweetheart, I feel terrible his life was cut so short :(

I think it would be very stressful in NYC, the traffic there is crazy on a good day. I had a similar thing like this happen in Beverly Hills, but with a good outcome.

We were taking a rescue Pekingese for a test drive before we adopted him, and we were walking down Rodeo Dr. and he started pulling and running like a maniac and jerked the leash out of my hand. I had only met the dog 10 minutes before this and he was wild. He ran right out into the middle of the street but the funniest thing happened. Everyone in their cars had been watching us anyway and they all just stopped on their own, right where they were until I could run out and pick up the dog.

It was like a choreographed stunt in a movie. Traffic just stopped, no one honked, no one made any fuss. I think if it had been any street other than Rodeo Dr, it wouldn't have turned out that way. I was still mortified, running through traffic trying to get the dog.

We did not adopt the dog.

It it a totally LA thing. I'm just happy it wasn't on Wilshire Blvd because I don't think anyone would have stopped there.

My friend who had the rescue dog worked on the next street over from Rodeo, which is why we were walking the dog around the block to begin with. And of course it was a rescue dog because it was so uncontrollable. He needed to go to obedience school, the whole nine yards.
