June 3, 2019- Oscar-winning director Barry Jenkins (Moonlight, If Beale Street Could Talk) is set to direct a film about the life of choreographer Alvin Ailey for Fox Searchlight.
- Julian Breece (When They See Us) is writing the script for the film, with Judy Kinberg, Adele Romanski, Rachel Cohen and Alicia Keys producing.
- Fox Searchlight made a deal with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, granting full cooperation from the organization that has all of Ailey's choreography, and the rights to Jennifer Dunning's biography about the choreographer.
- Jenkins says he is "beyond proud and humbled" to bring this story to the screen.
